do retail agents now have the ability to print Certificates of Insurance
AND eligible Additional Insured Endorsements (non-brokerage, CGL accounts
only), online, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We have launched this system
in Washington and Oregon only (based upon insured location) and will add
11 addtional western states shortly.
The instructor for
virtually every continuing education class on the topic recommends that
agents never issue a Certificate of Insurance for General Agency placed
business. And instructors are especially emphatic about not issuing Certs
with Additional Insured language added. Yet, savvy General Contractors
and their lawyers are increasingly requiring a Certificate of Insurance
and an Additional Insured Endorsement as a contract requirement. It puts
you and your Insured in quite a bind.
General Agents struggle
(and often fail) to provide the necessary paperwork on a rush basis --
particularly before the policy itself is issued. As a result, your Insured
may:
- be thrown off of
a job site,
- have their contractor's
license suspended,
- be unable to secure
payment for work performed, and
- may be denied a
job that they otherwise would have secured.
And who takes the
blame? Until now, you did! But no more.
Appointed agents who
have completed the necessary paperwork may log in below and begin using
the system. If you are an appointed agent and have completed the paperwork
but still can't get in, then speak with your Agency Administrator to make
certain that he/she has designated you as one of your agency's users.
